TBR’s Book Haul

Hello dear, may you have a wonderful day today. As for me, well I got a very hard time to resist myself from buying more books. I have also piled my current piles with additional 45 378 more books into them. If I can afford them lah, well I just add some four to five into it? Argh I should really restrict myself from visiting bookstore. But of course you know.. I JUST CAN’T.

As I will not review any of those book any sooner because of the piles but lets all of us take some time to appreciate how wonderful and great the cover and summary of these books? Lets cherish that moment on how we fall in love with the book from the first sight 😋 so lets start with my own To Be Read Book Haul:

1. Remang, An Anthology of Ghost Tale by Daphne Lee

I just love horror thingy, but that does not meant I wanted to involve myself in the bomoh stuff thingy. I just love the kind of thrilling feel by reading those stories. So a local folk story told in universal style is a big YES for my collection.

Goodreads summary:

Foul fiends and horrifying hauntings fill the pages of this new collection of Malaysian tales. Whether inspired by homegrown creatures of the night, like the pontianak, or featuring supernatural beings and lost souls created especially to chill your blood, these stories will keep you turning the pages and looking over your shoulder all through the night.

A man seeks for a miracle cure for his heartache. Langsuir on a train. A rape attempt on a woman with mysterious past. Supernatural guardian from a small village in India. Haunted back alley. Sixteen horrifying and distinctive tales in this long-awaited collection, curated by Daphne Lee.

Daphne Lee is an author, editor and columnist with over twenty years of experience. With stories from well-known writers like Tunku Halim, Shih-Li Kow and Golda Mowe, and exciting new authors like Atikah Abdul Wahid, Wong Jo-Yen and Fazlyn Abdul Malek, she brought together the best, and most promising, writers in Malaysia for this collection.

2. Garis by Khairul Aswad

Erm, paranormal thingy again? I’ll just shut my eyes and throw this into my buying bucket. 😛

Goodreads Summary :

Fira okey. Lama-lama nanti bila Fira dah biasa dengan mimpi-mimpi ni.”

“Nek Jah risaukan Fira. Kita pergi berubat ya lepas ni?” Tanpa Alfira sedar, sebenarnya mimpi-mimpi yang dialaminya itu menjadi garis pemisah dunia nyata yang menceritakan segalanya. Sebenarnya kedua orang tuanya dibunuh.

3. Wizra by Ahmad Patria

Just because I nearly cry on the first book does not mean I’m satisfy with the cliffhanging end. Thats mean, this second book is a must for the Kronika Nashan’s trilogy. I meant what will happen to Melyn ien Sarra iea Nashrain, the high princess. I am mostly overhelmed by Spiara Bulwar epic friendship and betrayal story, and I would like ‘to know despite all the struggle and buried secret, how will Nashan survive at the end?

Since its a election seasons, so I need to read all patriotic books just to get into feel. 😛

P/s : I havent buy the third book of the trilogy yet. But sooner InsyaAllah.

Goodreads Summary:

Dan dia paling terkenal, dengan hanya satu gelaran.

Wizra.

4. Jika Aku by Anna Lee

My first attempt after leaving the author pieces since Puteri Karla, she used to be known as Julia Esqa, a book I used to fangirl over with before. I got a very positive feedback from Siqah Hiqa and I cant wait to start my reading on this one. But of course, I need to stay on the que. :3

5. Sindrom by Tey Marzuki

The summary remind me of a novel I’ve been working on (still on drafting phase) which inspired from my fave childhood classic story, so this book none other but to be my reference on that matter. I’ve been told that a great author were those who read so many book, and I agree on that.

Goodreads Summary :

6. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

After horror, fantasy is my other obsession. As a YA lover and a trilogy scavenger, this book need to be in my collection.

Goodread Summary:

In a continent on the edge of war, two witches hold its fate in their hands.

Young witches Safiya and Iseult have a habit of finding trouble. After clashing with a powerful Guildmaster and his ruthless Bloodwitch bodyguard, the friends are forced to flee their home.

Safi must avoid capture at all costs as she’s a rare Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lies. Many would kill for her magic, so Safi must keep it hidden – lest she be used in the struggle between empires. And Iseult’s true powers are hidden even from herself.

In a chance encounter at Court, Safi meets Prince Merik and makes him a reluctant ally. However, his help may not slow down the Bloodwitch now hot on the girls’ heels. All Safi and Iseult want is their freedom, but danger lies ahead. With war coming, treaties breaking and a magical contagion sweeping the land, the friends will have to fight emperors and mercenaries alike. For some will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

7. Grishaverse Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (Siege & Storm, Ruin & Rising)

I already finished with book one Shadow & Bone, and it left me.. how to put that into words.. nothing. But I have this urge feeling to know more, since I’ll not expect so much from book one, nowadays author always save the best part for the last. And I need that BEST PART and I’ll stop at nothing even though obviously money will be the barrier. :3

Siege & Storm Goodreads Summary:

Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

Ruin & Rising Goodreads Summary:
The capital has fallen.

The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.
