Book Review | A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (Expanded Version)

Hey there, for those who follow my blog updates may wonder why I review this book for the second times. Well, on a second thought, I believe that I don’t deliver my two cents on this book properly. Therefore, I decide to make a second extended version (which also meant second chance for me) which I’ll go deeper in reviewing this one. Its not fair that my reader does not feel the eagerness that I felt while reading this wonderful book. Therefore, here you goes.

Summary from Goodreads:
The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.
But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…
This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.

I’ve been exposed to this book was from POPCLUB monthly magazine. After reading its summary, I felt like yeah that is the kind of book I need right now. Then after several day I managed to get it at hand and even finished reading it in one night long!

What I really can say about this MG book, is somewhat phenomenon and extraordinary. From the first page I’ve been curious what Conor have in himself that makes the monster comes out? What was this monster purpose, is he bad or somehow just wanna put things back on Conor life? But in what way? In what situation?

The story goes like, a giant tree monster calls Conor exactly at 12.07 in the midnight and sometimes on the afternoon at the exact same time. The monster will trade three true stories which in turn Conor need to tell a true story of his own.
The three stories that the monster told somewhat have this kind of hidden message where the truth will be revealed on Conor’s last story. And yeah it does, all of the story actually related to Conor reality life without his realization.
Conor raised by his mother which happen to have cancer. Then this monster come into his life. Conor have to dealt with various things in one time such from his mother sickness, his friends, his bullies etc and its totally so much for a kid aged like Conor.
I definitely like the ending, it was a powerful ending. Its like a beginning to a long journey. I entertain myself reading this book. Tho it does not really have that wow factors but its really have a good story to spend the day with. This books makes me realize, people react depends on their surrounding, and little that we know that our surrounding, the people we engage are actually create who we are..
I checked on GSC when will this motion picture will be released, and I’m sorry for being so left behind. It was released on 20 Oct 2016. But I’ve not yet seen the movie yet and I’ll maybe looking forward to it. Lets us see the trailer below:
